HOW WE SECURED OUR PICTURE FOR THE SCHOOL

Goldie E. Turner, 9

We secured a very beautiful picture for our School, which we feel proud of.

A representative of the Farmer’s Wife came to our school and gave us a plan by which we might obtain one or more pictures for our school.

Her plan was this: She offered us as a prize of one pencil box containing three pencils, one pen holder and pen point and one eraser for every subscription to the Farmer’s Wife that we would get. In addition to this we received a fine leatherette writing cabinet for getting three subscriptions to this magazine. In order to obtain these prize boxes on those conditions the subscriptions were to be obtained within the limit of two days. When we obtained twelve subscriptions we were to receive a large framed picture.

We selected "Birth of the Flag", which shows Betsy Ross making the first American Flag.
