Harrisonburg Lot 12: Morris to Graham & Shacklett 1830

This Indenture made the thirtyeth day of August in the year 1830 Between John Morris and Anna his wife of the County of Shenandoah and State of Virginia of the one part and Benjm. F. Graham and Samuel Shacklett of the County of Rockingham and State aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said John Morris and Anna his wife for and in consideration of the sum of Fifteen hundred dollars lawful money of Virginia to them in hand paid by Samuel Cootes for the said Graham & Shacklett the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained and sold and by these presents to grant bargain and sell to the said Benjamin F. Graham and Samuel Shacklett and their heirs and assigns forever a certain lot or parcel of land in the Town of Harrisonburg in the County of Rockingham supposed to be part of Lot No 12 and situate on the North East Corner of the Public Square and Irish Street in Said Town and adjoining the lots of Samuel Henry and Robert Gray. Bounded on the south by the Public Square, on the east by Irish Street, on the north by Samuel Henry’s lot, on the west in part by Samuel Henry’s lot and in part by an alley in common between the lot hereby conveyed and Robert Grays lot. Also all the rights & priveleges to the use of the said alley between the lot hereby conveyed & Robert Gray’s (formerly Hardesty’s) Secured to the said Morris by the deed of bargain and sale executed by Samuel Cootes & wife to the said John Morris on the 15th day of January 1824 and of record in the Clerks Office of the County Court of Rockingham the lot hereby conveyed being the lot in which Samuel Shacklett now resides and on which the Store of Graham & Shacklett is kept and the same lot….veyed by Cootes & wife to said Morris on the said 15th January 1824 together with all and…….the appurtenancies thereunto belonging in any wise appertaining to have and to hold…….with its appurtenances unto the said Benjamin F. Graham & Samuel Shacklett & their………….ever to the only proper use and behoof of them the said Benjm. F. Graham & Samuel………forever and the said John Morris & Anna his wife for themselves and………ant with the said Benjm. F. Graha….Shacklett and their heirs executors and Adm……….& Shacklett and their heirs and assigns against the claim…………their heirs and of all and every person or persons whatever shall and will……………In witness whereof the said John Morris and Anna his wife have hereinto set………..and year first written.

[Samuel Cootes married Emily Graham in 1818 and in 1823 became the guardian of her brother Benjamin F. Graham. Emily & B.F. were children of John Graham, died 1815, and his wife Margaret Boyd Graham who married John Morris 1816 and died 1827]
