County DB 15:186 1841 (Incomplete deed)
This Indenture made the 5th day
of July 1841 Between Saml Cootes and Emily his wife of the County
of Rockingham and state of Virginia of the one part and Adam Houdeshell
of the county and state of sd of the other part. Witnesseth that the said
Saml Cootes and Emily his wife for and in consideration of the sum
of one dollar to them in hand paid by the said Adam Houdeshell the
receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained and sold and
by these presents do grant bargain and sell to the said Adam Houdeshell
his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land lying and
being in the County of Rockingham situate on the west side of the big road
passing through Turley Town and on the West side of Brock’s Gap
and bounded as follows Beginning at Sycamore stump on the east side of
Brocks Gap Creek at the big road and crossing the creek to the west bank
to Jacob Neffs line being the land said Neff purchased of Tarlton Carr
(and the same that said Carr purchased of Saml Cootes) and then
running with said Neffs line or purchase South to said Houdeshells
corner which adjoins said Neff and continuing on the same direction with
said Howdeshell line to the back of the creek and returning with the
meanderings of the creek to the beginning containing about one and half
acre in the curve of said Creek together with all and singular the
appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertain to have and to
hold the said tract or parcel of land with its appurtenances unto the said
Adam Houdeshell his heirs and assigns forever unto the said Saml Cootes
and Emily his wife their heirs executors and admin. do covenant with the
said Adam Howdeshell his heirs and assigns that they the said Samuel Cootes
and Emily his wife their heirs executors and administrators the said tract
or parcel of land with its appurtenances unto the said Adam Houdeshell
his heirs and assigns against the claim or claims of them the said Saml Cootes
and Emily his wife their heirs executors and administrators shall and with
warrant and defend by these presents in testimony whereof the |
