This Indenture made this 19th
day of April in the year of our Lord one thou……………Hundred and
forty-nine between G. H. Chrisman, Martha D. his wife, Margaret………..Ann
H. Herring, heirs of Alexander Herring deceased of the
County of Rockingham……..of Virginia, of the one part, and Samuel Cootes
of the same county and state afore…..of…….. Witnesseth that for and
in consideration of the sum of one dollar to them in h………………..the
said Samuel Cootes, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged the
said……Martha his wife, Margaret D. Herring and Ann H. Herring,
heirs of A………….as aforesaid, have granted, …….released and
forever quit claimed, an…………do fully and absolutely grant….release
and forever quit claim……..Cootes his heirs and assigns all the

corner to Nancy Tusing, thence S24 1/2W18 poles……218 poles, thence
crossing the survey division line with a………….to some dogwood,
hickory, and gum saplings, thence………..black oak and locust, pattent
corner in east side of church……pattent lines N21 1/2W207 poles to a
chesnut and pine……….76 poles to a chesnut oak and hickory sapling in

to two pines on the banks of Tunis Creek……Also another tract or parcel
of land containing one hundred & fifty……….. it being part of the
above named pattent for 1423 acres lying near Tunis…….adjoining the
lands of Shoemaker, Yount & Mason, beginning at a white pine……….a
hill near…..Lick corner to said Mason & Yount, thence with Yount’s

to the beginning……..to have and to hold the tract or parcel of land
aforesaid, with it’s appurtenances to the said Samuel Cootes his
heirs and assigns to the only proper use and behoof of the…….said
Samuel Cootes his heirs and assigns forever so that the said G. H.
Chrisman, Martha D. his wife, Margaret D. Herring and Ann H. Herring,
nevertheless of them nor either of the heirs……nor any person whatever
claiming ……them or either of them shall by any ways or means,
hereafter, have claim challenge or demand any estate right title or
interest of in………to the premises aforesd or any part or parcel
thereof but from all and every action for the recovery thereof and from
all and every estate right title interest or demand of in or to or to the
said premises or any part thereof, they and every of them all be utterly
